This past weekend the third event of the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League calendar took place in Mexico City.
Another German victory in this Longines. And if three competitions have already taken place, all of them have ended with a German in first position. This time, the victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour of Mexico City has been for David Will.
Thirty-seven riders faced each other in the CSI5* Grand Prix, nine of them (those who went through the whole course without any faults) competed for the title in a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, the best time went to David Will and "My Prins van Dorperheide", an 11-year-old BWP.
The Mexican public lived it to the fullest as Eugenio Garza, a fellow Mexican, was the only local rider who managed to be among the best in this playoff. It was also his first participation in a Longines Global Champions Tour.
Although he could not get any place on the podium, in another of the tests we could hear the Mexican anthem. It was in the Palacio de Hierro Trophy, where Nicolás Pizarro finished in first position.
In the first three venues disputed so far, the first position had been maintained, which was for Maikel Van der Vleuten. However, after this exciting event, and due to the great performance of the protagonist in question, we can now see a new leader in the ranking.
Thanks to the second place obtained in the Grand Prix, Sweden's Malin Baryard-Johnsoon has a total of 99 points (5 more than the second and previous leader) which puts her at the top of the ranking.
On this occasion, Madrid in Motion was not able to obtain a new victory, but put in a great performance that left them in third place. The first place went to Riesenbeck International, who took it with great authority over their opponents.
With this victory, the Germans dethroned Madrid in Motion and put themselves in the top 1 in the overall ranking.
Finally, the second place was very closely fought with the third place, Madrid in Motion, and finally won by a few tenths of a second place for Paris Panther.
